Home of Grüner veltliner

Grüner Veltliner, with its complexity of aromas, is the focus of our winemaking philosophy. It is what we do best and where we have won awards on the world stage. We just love exploring its versatility through a range of styles - heavy, aged “Selection” wines just like complex, young “Heritage” whites.

Our dedication to natural wine runs in the family and goes far beyond low-sulfur and organic methods. We are now reaping the rewards of sustainability seeds that we sawed decades ago. Literally. We converted our vineyards into biodiverse ecosystems by planting old herbal varieties and fruit trees. Learn more about what drives us in our Mission.

Austria’s Weinviertel region has been the cradle for our Grüner Veltliner vision since 12 generations. Its characteristic Loess soil and south-facing vineyards fuel the development of complex wines with intense aroma and maximize the potential of this wonderful grape.

Family Heritage

We can trace our family’s winemaking history in our hometown of Pillichsdorf all the way to our ancestor Conrad Schmid in 1661. Check out the map on the right to see what our world looked like when Conrad was in charge. Can you see the vineyards on the hills adjacent to Pillichsdorf? It is impossible to know how much further back our legacy goes, but vineyards have been documented in our town as early as 1162.

Our “Heritage” line of wines celebrates this history and pays tribute to the ancestors that inspire us to this day. Our flagship “Wolfshuber’s Secret” Grüner Veltliner is named after one such figure. Martin Wolfshuber was a visionary mayor and winemaker in Pillichsdorf with a ‘secret’ for making wines of unparalleled aromatic finesse.

Today, the brothers Daniel and Josef carry forward the legacy in 12th generation. While Daniel makes sure that the winery operations run smoothly, Josef is the creative genius behind our wines.
